The 20130615 beta release (repeater)

Hi Folks

Most of the changes in this release are associated with the new multi-hardware
D-Star Repeater. The sound card interface is now complete and seems to do the
right thing :-)

My original sound card repeater dates back to early 2009 and was my first
attempt at developing D-Star software, it's been in operational use since August
2009 but the new D-Star Repeater has allowed me to revisit some of the decision
that I'd made back then and using new knowledge that I've gained in the interim,
simplify the structure of the new sound card driver. If all is well then the
changes shouldn't make any difference to its operation compared to the Sound
Card Repeater, but internally it is much simpler.

This now means that the new D-Star Repeater supports all of the hardware types
that the existing Sound Card, GMSK, DV-RPTR, and DVAP repeaters and nodes now do
separately. The only piece missing from the jigsaw is the support for Split
Repeater functionality, and that will come in due course.

Other changes in this beta release are the addition of an optional delay in the
startup of the DV-RPTR V1 driver, the default is off. The reason for this will
be revealed later.

Finally XRF250 has been added to the DExtra Gateway.

The 20130611 beta release (irdddbgateway)

Hi Folks

A real grab bag of fun stuff in this one :-)

The changes are:

1. Added XRF250.

2. Merge the local *_Hosts.txt file in the RemoteControl and TimerControl
programs to match the gateway.

3. Add another digit to the decimal part of the frequency to handle 6.25 kHz
spacing repeaters.

4. Added the USA QuadNET IRC network to the ircDDB configuration panels.

5. Allow DTMF numbers to be used for linking to D-Plus and DExtra. This is now
the same for those modes as for DCS.

6. Handle zero Timer Control actions properly.

7. Add remotecontrold to allow command line gateway control. The syntax of the
command is:

remotecontrold [-name name] <repeater> <link|unlink> [<reconnect> <reflector>]

In brief the syntax allows such commands as:

remotecontrold gb7xyz_b link 15 dcs005_b

Which links GB7XYZ B to DCS005 B with a 15 minute reconnect timer. The same
command can be expressed as:

remotecontrold "GB7XYZ B" link 15 "DCS005 B"

Other valid command formats are:

remotecontrold gb7xyz_b unlink
remotecontrold gb7xyz_b link never dcs005_b
remotecontrold gb7xyz_b link fixed dcs005_b

This program is Linux only and can be used within cron for gateway control for
those who want to use cron. Please don't ask me to explain cron though, life is
too short for that....

The 20130508 beta release (Repeater Software)

Hi Folks

This release rolls back most of the changes which were in the previous beta (now
deleted from the Files -> Beta area) which were causing problems. Only minor
changes remain which wouldn't have merited a release, but since 20130503 was
released with these minor enhancements, I may as well get a new beta out.

If you are running 20130423 beta and are happy then you may as well stay with it
unless you want to try out the new D-Star Repeater. It works well with the DVAP
and offers more facilities than the DVAP Node. I'd also like feedback with how
well it works with the DV-RPTR V1 and V2 boards.

Sorry for the delay in replacing 20130503 beta release, but we've had a bank
holiday in the UK and I have a life away from D-Star and PCs!

The 20130523 beta release (ircddbgateway)

Hi Folks

This is not a major upgrade, just a matter of releasing what I have as nothing
much has happened for some days, twenty in fact. The changes are:

1. Allow for a gateways IP address override file. This was touched on by Hans,
it allows for the IP address of a gateway to be overridden and any IP address
reported by ircDDB to be ignored. This was specifically added for use with
HamNet and I'll leave Hans to deal with the details for people who are
interested. By default this feature isn't used and so doesn't affect most
gateways.

2. Stop the echoed audio from going out over reflector links. In a previous beta
release I stopped the original audio for an echo test from being sent over
reflectors, now the echoed audio is blocked too. I could claim that the previous
behaviour was by design, but in fact it was a cock-up.

3. Updated XRF008s, REF035s, REF042s, and REF053s IP addresses.

4. Added XRF727 and REF060.

Note that for addresses, I take the addresses returned by opendstar.org (!!) as
being authoritative, and the addresses returned by dns.xreflector.net as being
authoritative for DCS and DExtra. Since DExtra doesn't have any centralised
registration system (not to mention divergent protocols) it's hard to know what
to do for DExtra.

The 20130523 beta release (repeater)

Hi Folks

Just a small update this time, although item (1) is pretty major for people
playing with the new D-Star Repeater.

1. Fixed GMSK Modem bug in the D-Star Repeater. The GMSK Modem option in the
D-Star Repeater is now fixed and works reliably with my GMSK Modem. However
please note that the GMSK Modems use a broken USB protocol and may or may not
work reliably with your PC hardware.

2. Updated XRF008s IP addresses.

3. Added XRF727.

The 20130503 beta release (Repeater Software)

Hi Folks

1. Tweaks to the DVAP handling. In fact there is a lot of change in this,
particularly on Windows but on Linux also. On Windows I know no longer need to
run some streaming service at the same time in order to make it reliable. It's
an odd one this....

2. Made opening the serial port more aggressive for the DVAP. It will try up to
thirty seconds, in five second goes before giving up.

3. Included the D-Star Repeater and Config program in the Windows package for
the first time. The new D-Star Repeater will include the functionality of all of
the existing repeaters in due course. Currently it only supports the DVAP,
DV-RPTR V1 and V2, with only the DVAP tested to any extent. It offers more
facilities than the DVAP Node and will replace it eventually. I hope people will
test the DV-RPTR modes and report back. Like the ircDDB Gateway there is a
separate configuration program.
